Analysts
Our success is built on an Information Based Strategy (IBS). This uses scientific testing on a large scale to collect huge amounts of information that drives every decision we make across the business. As a result, our culture is 'truth-seeking'. We work collaboratively to solve business problems using fact-based data.
Analysts play a vital role in this culture and are very much at the heart of business decision making. To succeed and enjoy life as an analyst here you will be analytical, relish a problem-solving culture and be comfortable taking responsibility for making things happen.
There are approximately 80 people in analytical roles across the UK business. In the UK Card department the analysts are responsible for driving product strategy, credit decisions and optimising marketing approaches to retain and attract customers. These roles also offer great leadership training and many of our senior directors started their careers here as graduates.
Other analysts in the business work in areas like Risk, Operations and Fraud. These analysts play vital roles in improving the efficiency of the business and improving the customer experience by both prevention of fraud and improvement of service.
Statisticians
Our statisticians build insightful models to predict the probability of certain kinds of customer behaviour. A good example of this is assessing the risk posed by certain types of consumer when they apply for one of our credit cards. How are they likely to use the card? Might they default when monthly payments are due? By providing accurate answers to these sorts of questions our statisticians keep the business on a firm footing and help reduce our financial risk.
Statistical probabilities are used to drive all of our key business decisions. Our statisticians also work with data relating to areas as diverse as television marketing and debt collection comparisons. It's an analytical, rewarding, varied and vital role.
