A guide to your credit rating

The categories below provide guidance on how to assess your credit rating:

Excellent

• I have a credit card with a credit limit of at least £5000
• I have had a credit card(s) for at least 5 years
• I have never missed more than 2 payments on a credit card or loan
• I have credit card balances of less than £10,000
• I don't have any previous credit defaults (CCJs, current arrears)

Good

• I have existing credit i.e. loans, overdrafts
• I have had a credit card(s) for at least 3 years
• I don't have any previous credit defaults (CCJs, current arrears)

Needs Strengthening

• I have had little credit in the past, for example: I have an overdraft but no credit cards
• I have had credit problems in the past, OR
• I have no credit history, for example:
  • I have never used credit in the past
  • I am a student
  • I am new to the country
