Our Choices Count

A key element of our Environmental Programme is to educate and empower our employees to make sustained behaviour changes both within the office and at home.

Globally in 2007, Capital One launched a programme of employee awareness under the banner of "Our Choices Count". Initiatives include:

Initiatives include:

  • Environmental Events - We hold environmental events, such as Earth Day, to help inform and educate our employees on ways to reduce their environmental impact both within the office and at home. We have also held an Environment / Sustainable Transport day, when we encouraged employees to make pledges on how they can help improve the environment.
  • An environment meeting room - We have an environment-themed meeting room in our Nottingham office, which contains information on our Environment Programme. There is also an environment notice board in our London office.
  • In-house learning zone - We have added an environment section to our in-house learning zone, which contains books and DVDs to enable employees to increase their knowledge of environmental issues and pick up ideas on how they can reduce their own carbon footprint.
  • On-site Farmers' Markets - We hold a bi-monthly farmers' market in Trent House, providing our employees with the opportunity to purchase locally grown organic products.
  • Awareness campaigns - We have launched a number of awareness campaigns designed to encourage behaviour change, such as asking employees to turn off their computers and monitors each evening to help reduce our electricity consumption.
  • Environment mailbox - We maintain an environmental mailbox to gather green suggestions from our employees, which we add to our environmental action plan where possible.

In addition to the above, we actively encourage our employees to attend regular community events, some of which have environmental themes. For further details please visit our Community section.
